Preschool Lesson Week 1

So, I’ve finally compiled my preschool lessons so that you as stay at home moms (or dads!) can have something simple, short & fun to do with your child during the day.

I have been out of the classroom for 3 years, and while I miss it a lot (the students, the parents, the high energy painting 🙂 ), I know that I am called to be at home right now and that at home I can use everything that I learned in the classroom. While that might lead people to believe I’d homeschool my children, that might just not be the case. Never say never, right? But I was a homeschooler. And while I believe there is nothing wrong with that (my mom did a fantastic job!), I feel homeschooling is for certain situations. I haven’t found myself in one of those situations yet, so I can’t make the call on whether it’s “good” or “bad”. What I can say is that if you as a mom are doing everything possible, i.e. getting involved in a homeschooling group, seeking out what is required in the Province’s or State’s curriculum (especially towards graduation or the grades with Provincial or State testing), and planning your child’s lessons, than I say you are probably doing a pretty good job. It’s the parents who sometimes just pick up books at the local Education store for their child to work on in the mornings that concerns me, as an educator. I have seen gaps in children’s education, and that is one reason why sometimes.

Enough on that topic. Here’s what’s going to be new on the blog!

Each week, I will be posting a weekly lesson for you to work on with your 3 year old preschooler. Each lesson does include an enrichment activity for 4 year olds. These lessons are based on what I have done in the classroom over the years, but because I taught only 4 year olds and was curious on what I would do with 3 year olds, I have taken out much of the written work being that we want to focus on recognition and not necessarily printing just yet. This exact program is being tested on my own 3 year old-and hopefully yours too!

We will go through colors, shapes, numbers 1-10 & finally print letters (and start on printing your child’s name!)

I welcome any and all feedback! Please leave comments below, or e-mail me : krystle(at)daisysgarden(dot)ca

There will be one lesson posted per week. I will run these lessons from October 1-April 29th (minus 2 weeks at Christmas and 1 week in March).

And as with anything-please don’t copy these lessons and make them look as your own. Give credit to where credit is due. It does take time to sit down and organize all of my notes and lesson planners into these shorter, parent-friendly lessons.

Thank you! And enjoy!
