Recent projects & a new iPhone app!

So, I’ve been working on some recent personal projects. It’s been quite nice to truly be sewing for fun and no other reason. I found the ruffled skirt below on Ruffles and Stuff . It was a more difficult project for me, as I haven’t done a lot of gathering. We should always be learning, right? I also made the waist band quite a lot wider so I can wear it now, as a maternity skirt. The ruffles aren’t all perfect, and I see some misalignment looking at these photos, but it’s fine. Most of you will just say you have no idea what I’m talking about. My husband wasn’t too thrilled about the ruffles-which I forgot about. Six months ago, I bought a really cute (in my opinion) dress from H&M. It had ruffles such as these on it. Needless to say, the dress doesn’t hang in my closet anymore…actually it never made it to the sacred place in my house. It found it’s way back into the H&M shopping bag and back on an H&M hanger.

Anyway, I’ve been longing for spring (haha! I know) and thought these fabrics were just too cute to give away in my scrap box. I am going to buy a ruffler foot on Wednesday, so it should help when I go to make a toddler version. And no, Lil’ A and I won’t be wearing them on the same day-although if Baby #2 is a girl, I might just have to make a baby version for them to wear together, at least once.

I got a new app on my iPhone today while I “watched” Sesame Street with Lil’ A. It is called “Hipstamatic”. It is basically a camera app that you can change the film and lens and tweet other settings. It’s an old school camera in an app. I found out about this app while surfing some photography blogs that I drool over every few weeks. Photography is really a hobby I’d like to get into. I have a great camera and a few lens, however I lack the time and focus to really learn all the technical things that make you a better photographer. I am continuing to keep it at the top of my “bucket list” of hobbies, though, so we will see what the future holds in that arena.

The photo below was taken with this app. I find it slightly challenging to get a straight on photo, being that the viewfinder isn’t giving you the view that will actually turn into a photo. Perhaps I am missing something, so if anyone knows, let me know. It is a pretty fun app that gives you some fun photos that have the appearance of already being edited. Let me know if you have seen or use any other cool photography apps. I am always interested in making my phone more useful, and not just a Facebook checker, e-mail and message collection station, & Lil’ A’s new play thing.

Last, but not least in my recent ventures, I made this little pencil case for Lil’ A’s toddler crayons, which were rolling all over my kitchen floor. She knows how to open and close zippers, so I thought it was about time! She loves it and carries it around constantly. She really loves bags (that’s my girl!), so I will have to make her up some kid-sized tote bags, since the Victoria’s Secret shopping bags finally bit the dust:) This pattern came from Sew Mama Sew .

In Business News: I have closed down my “custom orders” for the next 6 months, unless it is an extreme emergency. We still have some stock left from WeeStock on our site in a vast array of colors & sizes, so please check those out before you e-mail me about a custom product. The one thing I will continue to make are our Tutu’s at customer’s request. I still have quite a few of uncut rolls of tulle in various colors, so please let me know if you are in need of a tutu-because all little girls need one!

Have a great week! I have a renewed sense of initiative to blog more frequently. Perhaps it’s all the snow we have here in Alberta-I’ve been housebound for almost a week. If you don’t need to go out, don’t, they say. And really who wants to bundle yourself up and a squirmy toddler, who loves to unzip her zipper and take off her jacket in the blistery Alberta cold? Not me!
