Thrifting

I really don’t like the idea of most thrift stores. I have gone into a few and really they have never seemed like what you see on home design shows. However, that’s probably because I wasn’t actually there with the host of the show and therefore, I on my end am probably experiencing the same thing they are.

Afterall, it is used stuff. It could have been anywhere before. That’s why I am kindof not ok with the idea of used upholstered furniture unless I know who it came from. Anyway….

I thought I’d go into a Goodwill store while I was in the city. There is a pretty large one on the south side of town. I thought I’d give it a shot. I just bought a few decor elements. Unfortunately, the pitcher belong has been in the wrong hands a few times around our house. It’s lived here for about a week now undisturbed. Hopefully that lasts. I explained to the girls that the living room is mommy’s special room, just like the playroom is their special room. They seemed to get it…for now anyway.

By the way, this was a bit expensive-but was up in the China section-the real stuff. The bottom says it was made in Italy. So I paid 12.00 for it. Maybe a little high, but I really liked it. It’s counterpart from Pottery Barn was about 49.00 last I checked.

The jar on the right was .99! It is Ikea…however someone already etched it. I actually have it in mind as a gift holder. With a few more embellishments that is.

The girls kept asking me to take their photo as I was photographing my new finds in their new homes. How could I not-they are too cute!

This little cake stand is beside my sink. I used to have a little pot holding all these things, but it was always in the way as I did dishes. This way, everything is up high. It is so pretty sitting there, making the cleaning supplies beacon more. The Mister does the dishes here due to my severe dry hands. But I do dry and put everything away, so it’s pretty good team work. (I tell my kids that “fair” doesn’t exist in my house. We all just work together to make our home great!) The cake stand was 2.99 I believe.

I didn’t find this pretty yellow chair at Goodwill.  It was on Kijiji for 10.00. I am assembling  about 12 mismatched chairs for my covered deck. I am going to have them all different colors around a farmhouse style table. It’s completely covered and doesn’t even have any snow due to our major storm yesterday, so I am pretty sure they will be fine out there. I am on the hunt for more chair similar to this (kid’s sized too), so if you see any, send them my way!

This candle holder was 2.99 and used to be chrome. Now Navy Blue, it will be part of my next Spring Mantle if I change things up. But I think it would be nice for a Summer mantle too. I really am liking the color Navy this season. Navy and Kelly Green! Navy and Coral? Yes, I think so!

So, there you have it. All the great finds! All for under 20.00 (minus the chair that is).

After my recent trip to Home Sense, I think I have to put a cap on decor items for now! Oh, I love stores like that. For my American readers-think Home Goods and World Market thrown together. At least that’s what I think from window shopping online.

There is some serious sewing and designing going on here this weekend. One dress and one skirt down, one more of each to go for lil’ E. Watch Daisy’s Facebook page for updates on the sewing!

Happy Saturday!
