My Notebook

So lately I’ve been reading about how many “bloggers” (I haven’t quite embraced that this is actually what people do for a living yet, but I’m warming up to the idea) keep tabs on what they want to blog about. I mean, most bloggers are women and we have how many words a day? About triple the amount of a man I think…and for lack of consistent sleep the number slips my mind right now. At one point in my life (probably when I was at the dating stage of life) I was interested in all of those facts and figures about the differences between men and women. Now, I live them daily and just let them slide…well most of them.

Anyway. I read that one woman keeps a small notebook with her. Well, I used to do that. But now my diaper bag is full of things like snack, diapers for two, wipes…again for two, extra clothes (one is potty training, the other a newborn-need I say more?), toys, maybe a wallet and maybe, just maybe some chopstick. I’d be lucky if I find a pen in there. That being said, there is no room for a “small” notebook. But I do always manage to have my phone. Oh what would I do without my iPhone? I record everything in it! I haven’t found an app yet though that I can use to record when something happens with one of my kids-like Lil’ E smiles for the first time, Lil’ A doesn’t have an accident all day 🙂 or she says a new word. So if you have one you like, leave me a comment and let me know! But I love the notebook feature in the iPhone. They sync to my Inbox in my e-mail and I can always delete or change things from laptop or phone. At one point I had almost 50 different notes. I really think that was over doing it!

So I’ve started to keep track of every little thing that I’d like to blog about. It’s really nice to be able to have something to jog my memory. I think of most of my new projects or ideas in the middle of the night when it’s quiet or during nap time, when I sometimes try to nap (Although I think the nap when the baby naps season is over now that Lil’ E is sleeping from 11pm-5:30am. I at least get some consecutive hours of sleep. As long as I get between 4-5 hours consecutively, I feel like I can function!)

The thing is my brain doesn’t work like it used to. Actually I think it is more that I have so many things to think about. When I was a student teacher many years ago, the school I was at was doing something called “Brain Gym”. I’d heard of working your brain before. You know memorizing random facts, etc. But I’d never done it. I participated in an exercise and I actually still remember a few of the facts that I memorized that day. I do think that with all the technology out there, we tend to not read as much the old fashioned way and I think there is something to be said about reading a book made of paper. (Side note, I just typed the word ‘baby’ about 3 times and then realized the word I was suppose to write was “Paper”…oh man!) I really think it has to do with staring at a small screen on a phone or looking at a glowing laptop screen.

Anyway…I find it interesting how my brother can remember everything…then I realize kids change everything. He doesn’t have any kiddos yet (Geee-hurry up;) and looks at mine and how it’s changed my life and tells me “he’ll wait” lol!

This being said. My goal is to read more and write with a pen more often. Although I love how helpful my iPhone is, I miss the slowness of life (at times) that paper and pencil brings.

Going to find a pencil…
