Sewing for us

The last few weeks I have spent time cutting, piecing, pressing & assembling the duvet cover I found through Amy Butler’s website . She has so many free patterns for quilts listed. I do find that the one challenge I have with her designs are the fabrics she uses are so unique that it misleads you to think your finished product will be just as unique. Her fabric is expensive. Even fabric.com doesn’t have really great sales on her products.

Since taking the above photo, I have added the pillow cases and shams. I started off using this pattern, but quickly just did my own thing. I ended up using less fabric (by just a few inches) and a faster method.

I really do like how the pillow cases turned out. And in the end, they are really as easy as people say. I am sure I didn’t do them according to any official pattern, but I did use my serger to make them look “professional”. French seams would probably help as well.

I have a few other projects up my sleeves. I am working on fabric baskets, a slipcover for two really ugly chairs (that are great quality, but just not pretty fabric wise), and a skirt for Lil’ A. She picked out the brightest pink and royal blue knits….I just have to make sure she isn’t wanting them together, because I’m not sure that would work.
