So today, February 5th, we will start this mini series of things for kids to do on (or leading up to) Valentine’s day.

This year, I have bought into the “Hallmark” holiday. For the next two weeks, I will be featuring a new idea to celebrate Valentine’s day that you can do at home…with or without your lil’ kiddos.

I think the reason I “bought” into the holiday is that children need to know that their home is full of love. Yes, we should be showing love all year long. But I think that this time of year is a great time to focus on it and to jump start any New Year’s resolutions (or whatever you may call them). One of mine is to show the people around me that I love them; not just tell them.

One way I can do that is to spend time with my kids. Lil’ A is almost 3 (wow, I can’t believe that!)! I decided that being that she is a daughter of a kindergarten teacher, I needed to make sure she was ready-way ahead of time! So we started just after her first birthday to use scissors. Yes, supervised. Then the scissors get locked far, far away. Trust me, I even forget where they are most times!

Here is the first craft we did:

Really all we did was cut strips of pink and red construction paper.

The project started out as a paper heart chain (more on that on another day), but construction paper is not the paper to use for that. It doesn’t hold the bend that well.

Here’s the steps:

1. Fold the strip in half.

2.Hold the strip, folded side down.

3. Pull the left side down towards the fold and pinch together with the fold.

4. Pull the right side down towards the fold and pinch together with the others.

5. Staple the fold and two side pieces together.

6. Continue until you have a whole basket, bowl, pan, vase, etc. full!

Enjoy!

P.S. Let me know if some of you need visuals:) I was just too late to start taking them:)

Update: I thought I posted this on February 1st….obviously not.
