Both my girls are spring babies. Mid April and the End of May. And in there is my husband’s and brother’s birthday. And then it’s my nephew’s and my mom’s. So it’s birthday season in our house! And I love planning a good party. Especially kids parties. Children are so forgiving and so excited about just the little things.<\/p>\n

I thought that I would share my tips on planning a simple, but memorable birthday party for your kids!<\/p>\n

1. Theme: Ask your child what kind of party they’d like. I’ve done garden & owls. Owls is pretty trendy-so the only thing I bought was a 4.00 owl cookie cutter.<\/p>\n

2. Menu: Think “Kid Food”. Chicken nuggets, Peanut butter and jelly (if no one is allergic), fries, fruit and veggie trays, cheese & crackers, etc. Try sparkling water instead of juice….this way there are no orange or grape juice stains, and at least the water is a bit less sugar!<\/p>\n

3. Decorations: My husband always says, “Whatever happened to the backyard party with balloons and streams?” Well, he came from a family of 3 boys, who had the best birthday food. Which is really what little boys care about the most. My girls, well at least lil’ A so far, love tulle, balloons, glitter and all that fancy stuff. So I go all out with that…inexpensively. The dollar store is my favourite place for decorations. While mine in town didn’t have light pink streamers, or any light pastel colours, we found lots of silk flowers and play tiaras for our Princess themed parties this year. Don’t forget Pinterest! Don’t reinvent the wheel. (I am teacher and this is the most used phrase between colleagues). Just type in your theme and I am sure you will find a ton of ideas. Here are mine:<\/p>\n

4. Games & Activities: If the children are under 5, I’d suggest that you just let them play. A simple game or craft that takes less than 5 minutes and is only one step<\/p>\n

will probably be the best. Children usually enjoy just playing together, especially if they stay at home with mom all day. Parties are a great way to have playdates.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

5. Party favours: If it’s a costume party, consider having an addition to their costume such as a necklace or tiara they decorate during the party as the favour with a<\/p>\n

small bags of candy. Or limit the trinket toys to 2 per child. I know how many things “go missing” in the car on the way home from a party.<\/p>\n

6. Cake: After two parties, I have realized that cupcakes are my best friend. Kids love the icing 90% of the time. Why not make it 50% of the cupcake? It’s a party! It<\/p>\n

happens once a year…. I am just saying…I’m no expert party planner, but I have an adorable almost 3 year old who tells me the “cing” is the best!<\/p>\n

Those are my tips. Keep it simple! Find some ideas on Pinterest and make it easy to get a birthday checklist together for an almost stress free party!<\/p>\n

Don’t forget to throw in some glitter….just for fun!<\/p>\n
