My Friends, Momma….

Proverbs 17:17 (The Message)

Friends love through all kinds of weather,
and families stick together in all kinds of trouble.

Today I finally heard the words that I had been waiting to hear for a while now.

“Can I go sit with my friends, Mommy?” Lil A’ and Lil E’ were sitting at a large round table at church partaking in leftovers from our ladies’ brunch & work bee. A few tables away were a bunch of the other church kids. We had parked ourselves close to Baby M’s stroller.

There was nothing to say but yes. I had been a bit worried about Lil’ A. When we moved churches I was worried that the kin-ship she had with the small group of children there  would be lost, never to be found again…ok that sounds extreme.

But you see, it took me 10 years to really connect with people at our old church. It was a hard community to break into. Or maybe it was me and my black and white standards. I just couldn’t figure out why it was ok for people to do certain things and still come Worship God on a Sunday.  Still, eventually I found people I clicked with…now looking back I know that God prepared me for a season that I would need to deal with later with Lil’ A.

That season had arrived.

Sure, we knew a few people right off the bat. But we have way less playdates. Actually I should say, we have way less planned playdates through church groups. I have learned to be Brave and put the ball in motion. And you know what, very few people refuse a playdate:) Coffee, my kids entertained with others for a hour? Where do I sign up? I know!

It’s funny how we are so sure that something will be one way, when really it isn’t. It is so much better.

Lil’ A had such a hard time with going to a new class, but now she once again loves it! She asks when we are going to church. It’s been great going on Thursdays to Ladies too!

“Yes,” I told Lil A. “You can go play after you eat.” I have no idea what they played, water glasses in hand, but it looked fun. My Lil’ A had made friends. It warms my heart and brings tears to my eyes…because I know that every “Hi” I give in the hallway to a passing Momma is an example to my girls.

And you know what….I had a lovely day, making butterfly strings for our women’s conference and chatting with some lovely “Friends” of my own.

God is good. All the time God is Good!
